Casa Laranja, a Stoner Rock Trio From Florianópolis

Casa Laranja is a stoner rock trio from Florianópolis, pulling from Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath and Fu Manchu, with stoner, hardcore, punk and blues folded in. Riffs carry more weight than choruses, and the band lives in the interaction between the three of them in a room.

It started in 2020, with friends who met at a skate contest and a city mostly shut down by the pandemic. The hours that had nothing in them filled up with jam sessions.

Songs that start in a room

The first songs came out of those jams. Nobody arrived with a finished song. Someone found a riff, the other two answered, and the song took shape from what happened between them. That is still the core of how the band works.

More worked, never tamer

Over time the songs got more worked. The self-titled debut landed in 2022, with “Medusa” and “Quimera” in April and the single “Fullhouse” in August. The same year, “Coragem” put them on the MAU (Música e Arte Urgente) compilation alongside Cosmic Void, Dirty Grills, Mudness, Oyster and PachorrA, a lineup that placed Casa Laranja inside a wider underground scene.

Tempestade Sinistra na Ilha, the first full album, came out in August 2023: eight tracks, recorded live in a single day. More worked songs, but captured the way they are played, to keep the energy of the shows on tape. Jardel left the band after that record to focus on directing, and Pedro Guerra, already a fan from the local scene, took over on bass.

The songs got more worked. The energy of the room stayed.

Back to the stage

Recording a live set in the studio is one way to chase that energy. Recording an actual live set is another. No Célula Showcase (Ao Vivo), released in September 2025, chose the second path: eight tracks, about thirty minutes, taped at a real show tied to Florianópolis’s Bruxa Verde and Célula Showcase scene. It closes the loop the first album only pointed at.

The most recent chapter goes beyond music. “Groove Bruxo,” a short musical film leaning into horror B-movie imagery and stoner psychedelia, was directed by Jardel, the same bassist who left the band to become a filmmaker, now UMMONTE’s creative director. Friends from the scene filled out the cast. A companion piece, behind the scenes from the “Quimera” sessions at Estúdio Pedra Sonora with producer Rick, rounds out the project.

Casa Laranja’s own line for all of this, worn like a badge, is two words: noise and madness. From the first jam to the latest record, the energy is the same.
