Bio Builder: Your Artist Bio in Three Lengths, Free

Bio Builder in heavy black type on an orange field, next to three paper cards labelled one line, one paragraph and full story

We put a free tool on our site called Bio Builder. You answer a few questions about your project and it writes your artist bio in three lengths: one line, one paragraph and a full story.

It runs in the browser. Nothing to download, nothing to install. Open the page, type, copy the result.

Open the Bio Builder.

The Bio Builder on two phone screens: the form with the answers of a fictional artist, and the three bios it returns

How it works

  1. Open the page and enter your email. The tool opens right there, and you only do this once: the same sign-up opens the other free tools on the site.
  2. Fill in the form. It has two parts, your sound and your story: artist name, where you are based, three words for your sound, influences, how it started, your latest release and the highlights that really happened.
  3. Press Build my bio. The three versions show up next to the form, each with its character count and a copy button.

Change any answer, press the button again, and the bios update.

It only uses what you write. Nothing is invented, and that part matters, because a bio falls apart the moment someone checks it.

Why three lengths

Every place asks for a different size of the same artist.

The one line goes where there is no room: a social profile, a lineup announcement, the first sentence of an email. The paragraph goes in press releases, pitches and submission forms. The full story lives in your EPK and on your site, for the person who already cares and wants to know how it started.

The result for the fictional artist Marina Vale: one line with 123 characters, one paragraph with 379 and the full story

A bio that exists in only one length gets rewritten badly by whoever needs a different one.

Have the three saved somewhere you can find in under a minute, and the next form with a character counter stops being a problem.

Made to be used from anywhere

This is the idea behind most of our tools. You should be able to use them wherever you are, with nothing but your phone. Most of them already work that way.

Two more are free on the same terms: the Release Ready Checklist and the Cover Tester.

And if the words turn out to be the easy part, and what is still missing is everything around them (the photos, the look, the press kit they sit in), that is the part we build together with artists.
